Ylem Energy Appoints Projects Director

Flexible energy generation specialist, Ylem Energy Ltd, has appointed Neil Brooks – a leading energy industry project management specialist – to oversee the construction of its rapidly-expanding portfolio of generation and storage projects. Having formerly held senior positions with Forsa Energy and UK Power Reserve, Neil Brooks will take on the role of Ylem Energy’s projects director, based from the company’s Salford headquarters.

ElevRd Above 600x400Following its recent successful commissioning of some 27MW of gas peaker plants during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ylem Energy has embarked on an ambitious programme of expansion, focussing its own portfolio of flexible generation systems – along with helping its industrial and commercial clients save money with behind-the-meter optimisation.

Ian Gadsby, Ylem Energy’s managing director, said: “We are delighted to welcome Neil into the Ylem team and his wealth of knowledge and wide-ranging experience will play an important part in our plans for expanding our UK-based activities.”

“Before joining us, Neil’s recent roles have seen him deliver many hundreds of megawatts of generation and storage capacity - a scale of expansion that mirrors our own ambitions for Ylem Energy and Neil’s contribution will undoubtedly help us realise this.

“As the UK’s transition towards net zero gathers pace, the need for flexible generation and storage sites has never been greater. Every day, new sources of renewable generation come online and our systems are helping balance the grid and ensuring that we can keep the lights on whilst the threat of climate change is mitigated.”

Neil Brooks added: “I’m looking forward to working with Ylem Energy and helping the team further expand their vitally important generation and storage projects. One of things that attracted me to the company is its approach to customer service – having spoken to many people in our industry, Ylem Energy is held in very high regard and it is clear why they have continued to be so successful for the last three decades.”

“During this time, the company has been a pioneer in the generation of electricity from fuels derived from landfill and anaerobic digestion and its move into flexible generation has been a logical step. The growing market for behind-the-meter optimisation is an exciting opportunity and Ylem Energy has every intention of becoming the leader in this field and further enabling the UK’s move to decentralised generation.”
